The Personalities That Drive Direct Contact

The success of Direct Contact can be directly attributed to our contractors, that hardworking and dedicated
group of individuals who tackle the field work on each of our projects.  Each month, Direct Contact, Inc. presents a Spotlight
feature to show our appreciation and recognize the efforts of our dedicated contractors on the DCI/DRI team.

Tim Vercler - August 2020

This month we are pleased to present Tim Vercler for our Spotlight Feature. Tim has dedicated his life to the ag industry, starting his first job in ag at the tender age of 5! Tim loves to stay busy, spend time with his family, and even finds time to enjoy piloting planes. Please enjoy reading more about Tim in this month's Contractor Spotlight.

How did you get involved with DCI?
My wife suggested that I am happier when I am "always busy" then when I am "all caught up".  Several people I know were involved as contractors for DCI and were happy at the part-time jobs they performed, so I decided to give it a try!

Tell us about your background:
I have been in agricultural sales for over 44 years and I managed a retail fertilizer plant. My main career focus areas have been in fertilizer equipment sales, sprayers, blenders, NH3 toolbars, and I have automated both liquid and dry fertilizer plants for 12 years. I have also have farmed all my life.

What is the best thing about being a DCI Contractor?
I like the people; both the people who are involved on the DCI team and the growers in the field who I provide services to.

Tell us about your home and family.
I am blessed with a wonderful wife of 44+ years and 4 children who are all married and carrying on lives of their own. They have blessed us with 13 grandchildren so far who are the highlight of my life!

When you are working, what are you driving?
    Chevy Silverado pickup truck

What was your first job?
Raking hay and hauling manure - I was 5!

What are your hobbies and interests?
    I love flying. I have been a private pilot for 40 years and I co-own a Cessna 182 with my brothers-in-law.

What do you do the first hour of the morning?
Depends on the day's schedule, the season of the year, a whole host of things! My goal is to devote more time to daily devotions.

What is your greatest achievement?
I have been blessed with raising 4 children who as adults have grown to be responsible spouses, parents, and heads of family in their own right.

What are you ordering for your favorite meal?
    A nice prime steak.

What are your favorite sports teams?
Whatever team my grandchildren are playing on!

What is the happiest memory of your life?
The day I married my wife.  And also the days that each of my children were born healthy and perfect.

Tell us about your favorite pet.
Now that my children have all grown and moved on, my wife and I enjoyed going petless. This lets us travel and go see our children and grandchildren at the drop of a hat!

What was the first concert you attended?
    John Denver

What 3 people (living or not) would you invite to a dinner party?
I would like to meet Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King, and Neil Armstrong.

Do you have a guilty pleasure?
Cherry, or Peach pie ... I also like Coconut Cream pie.  I like double-crust fruit pies but I suppose can choke down a single, I like them warm or cold, with or without ice cream!

What historical figure do you admire most?
    Abraham Lincoln

What is something most people do not know about you?
I'm an open book, those who know me personally pretty well have me figured out. Those who know me as a business contact don't realize I am a pilot.

Where in the world are you dying to visit?
    New Zealand

What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?
Always be honest, you will never have to remember what you told someone because the next time you talk to them about the same thing it will not have changed much.
