The Personalities That Drive Direct Contact

The success of Direct Contact can be directly attributed to our contractors, that hardworking and dedicated
group of individuals who tackle the field work on each of our projects.  Each month, Direct Contact, Inc. presents a Spotlight
feature to show our appreciation and recognize the efforts of our dedicated contractors on the DCI/DRI team.

Jana Mitchell - July 2020

This month we are pleased to present Jana Mitchell for our Spotlight Feature. Jana hails from the Lone Star State, recently retired after dedicating more than three decades to the education field, and is thoroughly enjoying the opportunity to reestablish herself in the agriculture industry as a part of the DCI team. Please enjoy reading more about Jana in this month's Contractor Spotlight.

How did you get involved with DCI?
I had a dear friend who suggested DCI as I was retiring from my career in education and I was looking for an opportunity in agriculture with some flexibility.

Tell us about your background:
I grew up in a farm family in West Texas and earned a B.S. in Agricultural Economics from Texas Tech University.  After completing my degree, I decided to pursue a career in education, so it seems fitting that after retiring in December 2019 that I returned to the world of agriculture!

What is the best thing about being a DCI Contractor?
I have truly enjoyed the people -- those I have worked with at DCI, the Client teams in the field, and all of the growers that I have had the pleasure to meet.

Tell us about your home and family.
I met my wonderful husband, Mitch, 8 years ago and we will celebrate 4 years of marriage in the fall.  He has 3 boys who I adore.  Weston will be getting married next spring, Carson and his wife have a 15-month-old daughter who brings lots of joy to our lives, and Dillon is living his dream of being a musician.

What was your first job?
My first job was hoeing weeds in a cotton field for my Dad.  I may not have been the best field hand!

What are your hobbies and interests?
I love spending time with my family and being outdoors.

What do you do the first hour of the morning?
I enjoy coffee and some quiet time with God.

What is your greatest achievement?
My greatest achievement would be working in education for 31 years as a teacher and a counselor, and then being able to retire and try something new.

What are you ordering for your favorite meal?
    Green Chile Cheeseburger!

What are your favorite sports teams?
I love most sports and of course support my Texas Tech Red Raiders in baseball, basketball, and football.

What is the happiest memory of your life?
My wedding in 2016, surrounded by family and very close friends!

Tell us about your favorite pet.
I have an 11-year-old miniature Schnauzer named Jovi.  She's getting older but still has her spunky personality.

What was the first concert you attended?
    George Strait in Muleshoe, TX!

Do you have a guilty pleasure?
I like "snacking" -- sweet, salty, it doesn't matter!

Where in the world are you dying to visit?
    Australia

What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?
"Do the BEST you can with what you have where you are."
            -- Mark Batterson
