Dave Case - April 2019

This month we are pleased to feature Dave Case of eastern Tennessee. Dave enjoyed a long and successful career in agriculture before retiring and eventually joining the DCI team last year. Dave remains a dedicated agriculture professional and advocate, he is an active member on the Board of Directors of the Agribusiness Association of Kentucky and also the Ohio AgriBusiness Golf for Scholarships Committee. You will have too look fast if you want to find Dave during any "down time", just a few of the activities Dave enjoys in his spare time are running marathons, playing tennis and golf, and volunteering for the Smoky Mountain Service Animal Project. We are thrilled to have Dave on the DCI team, his experience in the industry and tremendous people skills are great assets for our clients and our DCI team. How did you get involved with DCI?
I had been aware of DCI for many years when I was with Bayer we had used them for several years and I knew of their excellence in the Contractor space in the marketplace.
Personal and/or professional background:
Mobay Miles and Bayer CropScience for nearly 30 years. Graduate of the University of Kentucky in Agronomy, concentration in Weed Science, Minor Ag Econ.
What is the best thing about being a DCI contractor?
The flexibility they offer you and the willingness of the staff to help you.
Share with us bit about your home and family:
My beautiful wife Dorothy and I have been married for nearly 36 years. She's a 20 Year Air Force Veteran, Farm Girl and my best friend. I have a younger brother John and my mom who is 88.
What was your first job?
Bailing Hay, setting and tending a tobacco crop, picking melons and tomatoes and sweet corn.
What do you do the first hour of the morning?
Yoga and stretching, breathing exercises, then my wife and I walk 2-4 miles every morning before breakfast.
What are your hobbies/interests?
My hobbies and interests are playing the mountain dulcimer, woodworking, and pickleball. I have run 8 marathons and over 500 Races. I play tennis 4-5 times a week, golf 2-3 times a week. I volunteer in the Smoky Mountain Service Animal Project, I'm a 24+ gallon blood donor, am Secretary of the Tellico Lake Rotary Club, and am a member of Smoky Mountain Antique Tractor Club. I'm on the Board of Directors of the Agribusiness Association of Kentucky, Ohio AgriBusiness Golf for Scholarships Committee, and Alumni Board of Directors University of Kentucky Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity. I also love to travel, waterski and cycling.
What is your greatest achievement?
36 happy years of marriage
What are you ordering for your favorite meal?
Lobster, pizza with anchovies, brussel sprouts with bacon
What is your favorite sports team/music group?
I am season ticket holder to University of Kentucky Basketball. I'm also a huge Bluegrass Music lover and groups like Joe Mullins, Spinney Brothers, and Doyle Lawson Quicksilver are among my favorites!
What is the happiest memory of your life?
My wedding day, finishing my first marathon, golfing with my Dad, playing golf with my Mom the day I had a Hole-in-One, taking a Rhine River Cruise with my wife and cousin, my first day with Mobay, and playing in golf scrambles with my brother.
Tell us about your favorite pet?
We are big into rescue dogs and have had 4 of them. Punkin and Nugget, then Sandy, and now Callie who is a soon to be 3 year-old Blue Heeler. She always is happy and glad to see us when we come home.
What three people (living or not) would you invite to a dinner party?
My Father who passed away 22 years ago, Jesus Christ, and Abraham Lincoln
Who did you see at the first concert you attended?
McClain Family Bluegrass Band in Berea, KY
What historical figure do you admire most?
Abraham Lincoln, I admire how he saved the Union.
Do you have a guilty pleasure?
Dark chocolate almonds
Tell us something about yourself most people you know are NOT aware of:
I was the President of Spanish Class in High School, my first tractor was a 1937 John Deere Model A, and I love to mow grass!
Where in the world are you dying to visit?
I would love to do a Danube River Cruise and we are planning a Family Reunion Trip to Scotland and Ireland Fall 2020.
What is the best piece of advice you ever received?
Live within your means and be grateful, have fun and take care of others.
