Nufarm Leads $70m Series C for Crop Protection Startup Enko
Ongoing threats and disruptions to the global supply chain have made crop security a critical area for investment, even as capital to other areas of the food supply chain dwindles. Crop protection startup Enko has secured a $70 million Series C round for its platform that facilitates discovery and development of alternatives to chemical crop protections. Australian agrochemicals company Nufarm, an existing investor, led the round. The deal brings Enko’s valuation to $320 million.

BASF’s Nutrition & Health division is strengthening its position as ingredients partner for the animal nutrition and human nutrition industries by combining the strategic and operational responsibility in one global business unit, Nutrition Ingredients. In doing so, the focus will be on leveraging and further strengthening core product platforms and assets for vitamins and carotenoids that are deeply rooted into the BASF Verbund as well as expanding the business with feed enzymes.
Bayer to Acquire Majority Share in Sustainable Lower Carbon Oilseed Producer CoverCress
CoverCress is a rotational cash crop which combines grain production with the environmental benefits of a cover crop without displacing other harvests. “CoverCress is exciting because it has the potential to become an important source for biofuel production as a new harvested rotational crop, while giving growers an innovative option to continue effective stewardship of their land and improve soil quality by acting as a cover crop,” said Rodrigo Santos, Member of the Board of Management of Bayer AG and President of the Crop Science Division. “As a global leader in crop science, we are committed to decarbonizing agriculture and helping farmers around the world become more sustainable through game-changing products and solutions that can impact climate change. Farm Beginnings Program Helps Couple Launch Niche Farm
Brian Elias and Kyle McAdams weren’t looking for a handout, but they did get a helping hand. And they’re thankful for it. The Chicago transplants are pursuing their dream of running their own farm. Though they came armed with some experience, they needed some help getting started. That’s where Food Works came in. The nonprofit organization’s Southern Illinois Farm Beginnings program was just the thing to help them get started on their dream.
